About Holly
People often ask how a woman in Canada could be so drawn to Flamenco guitar*, Yoga, and Ayurveda+.
So let me explain how all these things came together.
I received my first guitar when I was 8 years old. Flamenco was already stirring in my soul before I even knew what to call it. When I eventually studied Spanish in university, I started dreaming in Spanish within a couple of weeks. Flamenco and I were practically star-crossed lovers!
When I was in music school, I had chronic fatigue, candida, and food sensitivities. I also suffered from scoliosis and a bunch of repetitive strain injuries. Plus stage fright!
The thing was, I had a wild heart, a sense of adventure, and academia wasn’t really my jam. I was also in a relationship that, I now understand, wasn’t very good for me.
In battle with my gut, I was on a strict diet that only helped me feel better when I stuck to it perfectly.
Enter Yoga: A friend invited me to a Friday class, and it was love at first asana (that’s what we call Yoga poses!). Afterward, we went to a restaurant, where I cheated shamelessly on my diet. And, paid dearly for it the next day with a full-body hangover.
This quickly became a weekly ritual, minus the hangover! Because after a few weeks, the Yoga was already working its magic on my gut. Amazing, right?
Well, eventually my playing injuries caught up with me and I landed in physiotherapy. For nearly a year. Ughh!!
When my physiotherapist found out I did Yoga, she said, “If you ever stop, your playing career will be over.”
Since I’m a go-big-or-go-home type of gal, I decided to take a 2-year, 600-hour Yoga training. I took every class and workshop I could find about backs and repetitive strain injuries. If I found a book with one helpful pose, I’d buy it.
As I recovered from my injuries, my gut also got better… And better!
In fact, the last time I had my food sensitivities tested, I didn’t have any.
I just thought it was because I was excited about playing flamenco guitar. I’m definitely a fan of creativity as a healing force.
I didn’t know it then, but the injuries and stage fright were part of something bigger. Behind the scenes, I was also reconditioning my vagus nerve. Nobody was talking about it then, but the vagus nerve has a huge impact on the gut!
Meanwhile, I recorded an award-winning album of original flamenco compositions. I would never have had the energy or the confidence as a performer to do that when I was sick.
Now, I haven’t mentioned, I also happen to love food. So when I started studying Ayurveda, I was stoked about how it relates to food and cooking. I’m pretty sure I wore out my friends and family with the way I talked about it constantly.
Naturally, I became what I was always meant to be. An Ayurvedic gut health consultant and holistic healer.
And to put a bow on it, I became an Embodied Vision™ coach. This amazing process releases the fears behind unhelpful beliefs, while claiming the gifts.
Remember the unhealthy relationship I mentioned? I had no idea how much bandwidth it was taking! One reason it took me so long to heal is that my body was setting boundaries for me. I was subconsciously holding on to the fearful belief that it wasn’t safe to speak up for myself.
This is why I created the Gutsy Type Method: My lived experience is, gut health is more than food and how you digest it. It’s critical to attend to your nervous system, and to ‘digest’ your life experiences. Which is much easier when you know how to do it!
The decades have felt like a heroine’s journey, but I’m so happy to be living larger now. Now that I’ve found my power, I feel I can handle almost anything!
And, it’s no accident that my gut was implicated in claiming my power. That’s because the solar plexus is the energetic power centre in the body.
Now, I provide simple, effective tools so that you can put your digestive issues, emotional pain, and subconscious blocks behind you.
What excites me most about this work is the amazing things my clients get up to in their lives after our work together!
And the fact that my clients get results exponentially faster than I did makes my struggle worth it.
Now that you know a little bit about me, let’s connect!
Would you like to join me for a Virtual Tea? I’d love to know what brings you here, what you’d love to resolve in your gut and in your life. Go ahead and book it here.
With All My Love,
Holly
